Australians still favour residential property for investment.
A survey by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) showed almost half of Australians either own an investment property or were considering buying one in the next 10 years.
The survey of 1100 respondents conducted in June found that 20 per cent already owned an investment property while 29 per cent considered buying in the next 10 years.
“Investment property is still a popular investment among Australians,” says Hugh Elvy, manager for financial planning and superannuation with the ICAA.
“Australians love property. Even with the interest rate hike, the sentiments would be pretty much the same (as found in the survey). Property is tangible, an asset you can actually see.”
